The Positive Plan™ - The Positive Psychology Inspired Plan for Flourishing At Midlife!

The Positive Plan™ is the method I developed to help women at midlife flourish. It's grounded in Positive Psychology, the new science of flourishing, but also integrates other time-honored and cutting-edge methods from mind/body medicine, the wisdom traditions, narrative solution-focused, and cognitive-behavioral therapies, life coaching, and even neuroscience!

In our work together, you'll get to know the woman you are right now, and choose the woman you want to be. She may be different than who you thought you would be when you "grew up", and you'll experience the adventure of self-discovery, and of finally feeling authentic.

You'll identify your strengths and values, build your personal foundation, chip away at obstacles, neutralize blocks, make lifestyle changes, and let go of what doesn't work for you. You'll learn how to harness all your resources to improve your health and happiness, fulfill your potential, and live a full and meaningful life!

So many of us find ourselves caught between our desire for growth and our need for safety. I'm going to be upfront with you about my bias. I want you to be safe of course, but if you work with me, I will be a fierce advocate for the part of you that wants to flourish and will work to support your growth.

Whether you're a late-bloomer, second actor, course-corrector, or simply ready to stop neglecting yourself, I would love to help you make your next chapter, your best chapter - and flourish!

It's a Positive Plan for Flourishing!

The Positive Plan™ is based on a model I developed that identifies the most important elements of a fulfilling life. To describe it, I use the metaphor of a tree. It's the perfect metaphor to describe how we flourish!

The foundation, or trunk of the tree consists of the inner resources The Positive Plan™ helps you cultivate. These resources include confidence, persistence, flexibility, optimism, compassion, resilience, and more.

The branches of the tree consist of your values, strengths, and goals. Values, strengths and goals give you direction and power, and shape your life. They are what make you unique!

And the rewards you want from life - health, happiness, success, meaning, productivity, and improved relationships -the rewards of flourishing - are the foliage and fruits of our tree.

Below the surface of the tree are roots - unconscious processes that dictate your behavior without your awareness and can cause you trouble.

With The Positive Plan™, I provide you with:

  1. Daily practices that strengthen your foundation to develop your inner resources,
  2. Illuminating self-discovery exercises to identify your strengths and values to give you motivation and purpose,
  3. Proven tools to help you create the actionable goals and routines that make this all mean something
  4. Support, accountability, compassion, and companionship as you grow and flourish
  5. Rootwork: a neuroscience-informed approach to neutralize the old neural wiring that often gets in the way of our best intentions.

Read on for more details.

Daily Practices to Strengthen Your Foundation

You need a strong foundation of inner resources, such as confidence, resilience, and psychological flexibility to take on the challenge of flourishing. We'll work together to craft a daily "exercise" routine of practices including sensible self-care, mind work,  breathwork, positivity, and compassion practices, that will both meet your specific needs and suit your lifestyle. These exercises are how you'll "nourish to flourish"!

I once heard that Michelangelo said, "I just chipped away at the marble until the angel was set free". Turns out he didn't say that, but I love the idea of the quote anyway. Self-Discovery is my favorite part of this plan. As middle-aged women, we carry layers of shoulds and have spent decades designing our identities to meet the needs of our families, our generation, or our culture. To begin meeting your needs, you need to find out who you really are, who you want to be, and what you truly want and need. We'll spend some time with your values, strengths and exploring your life story in the Self-Discovery phase of your plan.

Based on what we learn during your self-discovery process, we will work together to craft actionable goals and design new routines that will honor your values, utilize your strengths, meet your personal needs and create a purposeful, meaningful, and happy life.

This is the flourishing part!

Support and Companionship

As a woman who values individualism, I used to think I had to do everything on my own, but as I've weathered the storms of life, I learned that even the strongest tree sways in life's rough winds. This is a Positive Plan, but digging deep to resculpt your life and rediscover yourself can get a bit dark and stormy. This is your journey, but I will be there to support you, travel with you, and shine a light in the dark moments.

As a trained psychotherapist, I've had years of experience working with people to uncover blocks. If you find yourself stuck in old patterns, the behavioral neuroscience inspired rootwork process can help you neutralize those blocks so you can heal, grow, and flourish.
